The word according to Torrent

This was a comment on the WSJ today, that made me think of Torrent:

"A private sector crony are those companies and people who are in business solely to make profit at the expense of others. Those who have no regard for their social or environmental responsibilities."

I was so glad to see that Torrent's unique view of how capitalism should work has finally made it out of the pages of Multiply. We should have cake to celebrate!

Hmmm... WSJ is getting soft.

Actually, if a corporation - meaning, in this case, probably a corporate CEO - is in business for the public good, or for Mom and apple pie, or for the future of the planet or for ANYTHING other than the bottom line and the good of its shareholders, the shareholders and going to sue and/or fire the CEO and/or sell their shares.

The bottom line is by definition the only thing that is to matter to the corporate form we have chosen... Legally, it's the whole deal.
That's not an aberration, it's the whole idea.
Can't blame a duck for acting like a duck.
